City of Cape Town reviews Trash

28 July 2010
Project to Improve Waste Management Services in the City of Cape Town's Solid Waste Management Department.
Get involved with changing the way we manage Waste!

Background

The City of Cape Town is running out of landfill space and needs to review its waste management systems to comply with the law and good waste management practice.

The current reality is that we send most of our waste to landfill sites, literally throwing money and valuable resources away, losing out on economic opportunities and utilizing valuable land that could be used for other priorities.

The Solid Waste Management Department of the City of Cape Town has initiated a project to review the entire solid waste management service for the following reasons:
• To comply with the laws governing waste management,
• To reduce the volume of waste being generated, collected, transported and disposed of, and
• To increase the recycling of economically viable materials and foster related job creation opportunities.
